Robin Ferner holds Honorary posts as Professor of Clinical Pharmacology at the University of Birmingham, Associate Professor at University College London, Consultant Physician and Clinical Pharmacologist at City Hospital Birmingham, and Consulting Clinical Toxicologist at the National Poisons Information Service Birmingham Centre. He studied and undertook research in chemistry before qualifying as a doctor in 1978. He worked for nearly 40 years as an NHS physician, and for 25 years was Director of the West Midlands Centre for Adverse Drug Reactions. He has served as Secretary of the BPS Clinical Subcommittee and the Joint Specialist Committee on Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, chaired the Specialist Advisory Committee, sat on the MHRA’s Pharmacovigilance Expert Advisory Committee, and represented the NHS on the NICE Appeal Panel. His research has focussed on harm from medicines: adverse drug reactions, medication errors, and poisoning. In 2012 he won the BPS Lilly Prize.
